St. George Socialites

St. George Socialites

The St. George Socialites was organized in 1999 upon the recommendation of Father George Xenophanes, our interim priest at the time. Both Mrs. Xenia Morris and Mrs. Stavroula Panas initiated the first meeting and the senior Socialites organization was formed. It was decided that a volunteer council would serve rather than an elected executive board. It consisted of the late Crystal Aridas, Sophia Anest, Esther Chrisicos, Lu Kosaitis, Susan Aschettino and Florence Pascal.

The main purpose of the Socialites, parishioners 55 plus, is to get together for periodic luncheon meetings and trips. Since 1999, multi-day bus trips have been to Cape Cod, Montreal, Quebec, Niagara Falls, Toronto, Williamsburg, VA, Washington D.C., Boston, Las Vegas, Alaska, Asheville NC, Nashville TN, and the Hamptons. This year, the Socialites are headed on a 5 day trip to Charleston, SC October 23-27, 2012.

The Socialites have enjoyed numerous Broadway and Count Basie shows, as well as numerous Atlantic City Casino Shows. We also consistently plan annual trips to New York City and Astoria where we combine a cultural excursion such as visiting a museum with lunch and a shopping trip to Astoria’s Titan during the Pascha Lenten period.

The Socialites may be somewhat mature in years, but they are definately “young at heart.” We have between 60-65 members and more are always welcome. If you are interested in joining, please contact the Church Office 732-775-2777.
