The Philoptochos Society of Saint George Greek Orthodox Church ~ Chapter 1021
FIND YOUR NICHE
Dear Philoptochos Membership,
Please find a list of Philoptochos Sponsored Events that we need your help hosting. I understand that it is difficult for many of you to attend our meetings and give up your time with family and prior commitments. I have prepared a list of events and descriptions of what is involved and hope that you will look over the list and FIND YOUR NICHE and commit to helping with at least 1 event. When you FIND YOUR NICHE please send me an email at: email@example.com or contact me by telephone at (732) 449-2558. Additionally, please visit our bulletin board in the Administration Building where you will find a display of all these events that you can sign up to volunteer for.

Asbury Park, New Jersey
Epiphany House is committed to promoting recovery and self-sufficiency for chemically dependent women and children who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Epiphany House provides transitional housing and a continuum of health care and social services. At Christmas time, Philoptochos provides personal care products to the women and toys for the children residing at their facility on Grand Avenue. Last year, we prepared gifts for 18 women and 12 children. Gifts need to be purchased, wrapped, tagged with our organizations name, and delivered one week before Christmas. Our budget for this event is $10.00 per woman and $15.00 or less for each child. We welcome any member who wishes to spearhead this outreach and perhaps reach out for donations of toys and gifts.

For the last three years on the last Monday in August, before Labor Day, Philoptochos joins with the Soup Kitchen & the new owners of our St. George in Asbury Park to supply backpacks for children in grades kindergarten through eighth grade going back to school. A list of names, ages and grade are gathered by Soula Tsettos (Soup Kitchen). Parents & children come on the designated morning to pick up their backpack. It is a beautiful event to see the smiles and appreciation on the faces of the children and parents when they receive their backpack. This is an event custom created for anyone who likes to shop on their own time. Expenditures for this event are in our budget and one can shop sales all year long in preparation for this event. We welcome monetary donations as well as donations of items. This past year we prepared 65 backpacks. Below is a list of items that we have typically put in to each backpack. I have also listed the store(s) where we have purchased the items. We have been fortunate that Shoprite always sells a beautiful assortment of backpacks at $4.99. This has greatly reduced our expenses for this event.
